Excel Airways From Newcastle

What on earth is going on with Excel ? they have ditched the wednesday flight from Newcastle to Rhodes fror next season. This was the only one that got in early enough to conenct to a ferry to Symi same day. The Thompsons and the Thomas cook entail an overnight stay in Rhodes.

The only Excel flight is now the saturday evening which gets in in the small hours of sunday morning.

Excel seem to have ditched both their flights to Kos too from Newcastle (used to be thursday and Sunday) so there's another route to Symi removed.

I can't see it being ditched for underuse surely - not after the trouble you had getting a flight Glen - maybe they lost their slots - in which case - who bought them up?

I see that XL have also lost their Wednesday flights from Bristol to Rhodes and Kos as well. That's the end of Symi next year unleass we can find another carrier. I think Airtours do an earlier flight. Perhaps XL have an ANES habit of updating their schedule a bit later.

Just had a quick look and Monarch, Olympic, First Choice and Cosmos, all don't have anything suitable either :o :o . Not good news Glen :( .

I wonder if they will revise their information at some point :?: to include flights from Newcastle as some of the airlines don't appear have schedules for next season yet.

On the other hand, XL's Flight info page shows flights from Bristol and Newcastle still on the list:

Click on Rhodes as destination.

Confused? So am I.

Perhaps it was an ANES buy out  , if that's the case don't worry as all will become clear in the course of time  , just not in enough time for you to be able to plan your trip :( !

And there was me thinking a February trip was hard to plan. Actually have you considered the Athens route :?:

Well Mazie, I just thought of the quickest way to get to Symi  But I'm sure all the companies will change their scedules after the UK flights, we have seen that before, they never go for the Danish ones, I have never found out why, actually we are a lot of Danes coming to Symi  :) :)

I noticed the flights have been ditched from Newcastle. Makes a change from Glasgow. They are usually the first to ditch flights to Greece!! Having said that I am bereft as Manos have ditched the Nireus Hotel. They had the best flights and transfers we have ever had. We had hoped to be back on Symi in 2009, but it is looking less likely now. Do doubt to add insult to injury the Wednesday day flight from Glasgow will be ditched by 2009 also :( . Olympic are still using the Nireus next year, but their return flight is a night flight which is not so good. Oh well will just have to wait and see what 2009 brings.

On the other hand, Palmair are starting direct flights from Bournemouth to Rhodes in August, September and October 2008... :D

So all you have to do is move down south into the stock broker/footballers' wives belt and you'll be able to fly to Symi... :?:

Strangely enough, I only discovered yesterday that there are no Dublin-Rhodes charters at all nexd year.

It's either Belfast or BA scheduled with a stopover in Gatwick, which to be honest I quite enjoyed this year apart from the 6 hour wait at Gatwick on the way back.

I don't mind the night in Rhodes. A meal at Mike's fish taverna or Indigo followed by a cocktail at The Blue Lagoon always gets me in the holiday mood.

After past experience with EXCEL, the latest changes can be no supprise. At least you know of changes in advance and not midway through your time on Symi, or even at the airport when they just change the time without any anouncment.
