Sizzling away

The whole country is sweltering at the moment. A good downpour to lower the temperature and clear the haze would not come amiss. Fortunately so far so good and no power cuts. This time last year the Greek national grid was having to buy in power from Albania and Bulgaria to cope with air conditioning demands. :o

Hopefully by the middle of September the weather will be ideal as usual.

I've just been reading about the that forced thousands of panic stricken tourists to spend last night on the beach.

Let's hope nothing like that ever happens on Symi.

Unfortunately most of the trees on Symi were cut down for shipbuilding. I feel so sorry for those on holiday in northern Greece.

It is still quite wooded up on the plateau, particularly around Kokkimidis, Stavro sto Polemou and Megalo Sotiris, not to mention behind Panormitis. Last year's state-sponsored sheep and goat cull has certainly improved the situation as self-seeded saplings have a chance to take root without being nibbled on. :|

Temperature's dropping a bit today. It's amazing how cool 40 degrees can feel after 45! 8-)
