President's Accommodation - mystery explained

Postby Symi Visitor Office » 21 Jun 2006, 13:33

Looks like my previous posting on the subject has vanished. Here we go again! When the State President's visit was still at the planning stage, Symi Town Hall approached the Symi Visitor about the rental of one of our properties as it met the required security criteria and was also large enough to accommodate the entire presidential entourage. At that stage the visit was still expected to take place on 16 and 17 June. The dates were subsequentally changed to 19 and 20 June, a time at which said property was not available as the same house is being used for shooting a Greek television series. Alternatives were investigated as it was not possible to rearrange the shooting schedule and the President's secretary in conjunction with the Symi Town Hall decided to accommodate the President next door at the Aliki Hotel. Anyone who has seen what a film crew can do to a house while in action will know that it was not feasible, no matter how patriotic, to stop shooting for two days. I hope that this answers various questions that seem to be floating around in people's minds. They could of course also answer them by talking to anyone at the Town Hall, to the film company, to the owner of house in question etc...
