The Countdown Has Started

Postby D and E » 28 Apr 2019, 13:06

Well we finally did the necessary yesterday and booked 10 days in June at our Chorio home - Anastasia’s.

After monitoring the website every day over the last few weeks good old Olympic were showing a decent price yesterday (jumped up again today) with luggage included. We have noticed that with some flights luggage can be additional but we are on the 07:00 Thompson flight from Manchester so good outward times but the return is 00:15 from Rhodes :o

EasyJet from Bristol are good times and that plus using AirB&B or Booking.com for accommodation came close on price and may well tempt us in September especially after enjoying Pedi so much last year.

A good friend who visited several times with us many years ago is coming so it will be interesting to see what changes he notices. He has never stayed in the village so that will be a first for him

So now to start planning all the ancillaries - trains and airport hotels :D and thinking about that first ouzo in Yannis Rainbow ;)

That's excellent news D&E and like Mille I can't wait to read your blog.

It's interesting to hear that Olympic prices are so similar to the "DIY" approach. It's always been the case in the past that package tour company prices were way cheaper than you could manage travelling independently but it seems that while Olympic prices have been steadily increasing, the likes of Booking.com and airbnb have driven down the cost of accommodation. It's very good news for visitors and for Symi!

I too will be on Symi in early June but I won't be attempting a blog, I'll leave that to the experts :D Though I might manage a picture or two.

I do hope they haven't sold you a "Thompson" flight. That's because as you probably really know, there is no such airline as Thomson, it was renamed to TUI 18 months ago. In fact given the grounding of their Boeing 737MAX planes, in common with the other 350-odd MAXs around the world, just about any European airline might turn up as a substitute, sometimes at short notice. They've also cancelled quite a few flights altogether for lack of planes - though well in advance, so don't worry about yours in June.

Much less risk with Easyjet - they got rid of all their Boeings years ago and only operate Airbus aircraft.

Excellent video Silverfox.
Such a pity that we will be so close yet so far - there’s always next time ;)

Symi in September

Reading James´ blog today I saw wonderful pictures from Syllagos Square.
The photo showed Leftiris´ outdoor chairs being made ready for summer.
Looking forward to see you at Leftiris for nightcaps in September :D .

Also looking forward to D and E´s and Silverfox´ stories from our common favourite holiday spot :D .

A rather down-beat post, but we have seen the island evolving over the last 25 years, as with other islands.

The Greek islands evolve as the rest of the world does.

Symi will have been so different 25 years ago when I decided we could not visit as the children would have not really enjoyed.

I went to other great Greek islands that will have changed so much.

Symi evolves has it has to!

Symi will always be a beautiful place, that can never change. The characters of the island are a part of my enduring memories of a bygone Symi. More original forum members have disappeared over the last few years, so many names from the past.

Hi there Siverfox, glad to hear you are on your way back in June. I guess I might just find you and Liz in the usual place once you've dropped your bags off on the 19th,
looking forward to seeing you both 8-)
