Transferring money

Most banks will make a charge for converting the currency into an Euro based account..

However if you have a Nationwide FlexAccount (and a small number of other banks and building societies) you can use a debit card to withdraw money from ATMs throughout the EU without any fees and get money market rates. In September 2009 I was getting a better rate than quoted as the exchange rate on the BBC "markets" pages at the end of the day.

Many of the high street banks will charge a fee for drawing money out on a debit card.

Transferring money

In Canadian dollars, the poundlet has lost one third of its value in two years. Probably the biggest drop since Harold Wilson devalued the pound to 14/6d and then had the gall to say: "This does not affect the pound in your pocket." As for the Euro, it has taken a tumble as a consequence of Greek politicians financial irresponsibility. It is difficult to comprehend that 'oor Gordie Broon's partie will be on the ballot sheet in the U.K. election, let alone the possibility of re-election. Perhaps some of the new smilies are appropriate :geek: :? :o :( :( :D
