Thank you, Silverfox, from some September visitors.
We arrived last Friday and found the island busier than we have ever seen it at this time of year. The Sebeco was crammed with day-trippers as well as those of us arriving for longer stays. But in spite of the number of people here, the welcome has been as warm as ever and it’s good to see so many familiar faces again. Our first walk as always was over the top to Nimborio and lunch in the taverna. It was also the first birthday of Panagiota’s daughter. We remember everything closing last year as they headed off to Athens for the birth.
Monday saw 40-50 visitors and residents gathered around a large TV for several hours at Lefteris Kafenion in the village to follow the funeral of HM Queen Elizabeth, all proceedings observed with due solemnity and respect.
Now we’re settling into our Symi routine . . . spreading our custom around places old and new. Yes, we’ve tried the new Kali Strata Restaurant. The food was excellent and innovative though our recommendation comes with a word of warning; M’s main course was so hot that he had to wait 20 minutes for it to cool down before he could eat it!
Weather is glorious though the wind is beginning to gust and the 15:45 Sebeco crossing to Rhodes has been cancelled as a result. We’ll wait awhile before planning any boat trips for the next few days.
Symi is definitely up and running again!
