Ag Emilianos

Postby JuliaB » 15 Jun 2015, 09:09

Here we are again in sunny Symi with a forecast high of 33deg today. Have received such a warm welcome from everyone, it really does feel like coming home. Our only disappointment is discovering that Poseidon no longer does an outing with the bbq lunch at Ag Emilianos - one of our favourite places. The boat still docks there for a while for swimming and to meet walkers but then carries on to Sesklia for lunch. Would be interesting to know what others think of this change of schedule.

Hi JuliaB

Yes, that is a disappointment. We spend a lot of time on boat trips during our annual Symi fix in September and, much as we love Sesklia, it's nice to have some variety. St. Emilianos has always been one of our favourites and we'll be sorry to miss a day there. We'll also miss the post lunch stop at Maroni bay - another lovely place to swim and admire the beautiful rock formations there.

I wonder why this trip has been axed? It must have been slightly more profitable for Yannis (less diesel than Round the Island) so maybe not his choice - perhaps permission from the monastery owners has been refused for some reason this year. Have you tried asking Yannis why?

Do you know if the Diagoras is operating this year? I seem to remember that Gabriel used to go to St. Emilianos regularly.

Enjoy the rest of your stay - 3 months and counting for us!

Diagorus looks all ready to go but has not gone out in the week we have been here but Gabriel is usually late getting his licence sorted out and will probably be starting his trips at the end of the month if past years are anything to go by

Thanks for your reply, Sue. Apparently the round the island trips are the most popular hence the change of schedule. Whilst it's still possible to have a swim stop at Emilianos, it's just not the same as being there for lunch and going on to Maroni. Will keep asking questions!

We've had a chat with Gabriel. He hopes to have his paperwork "maybe this week". We live in hope!

It's great to be back here. Had a delicious seafood risotto last night at Kabos/Cavo, the restaurant that has opened next door to the Nireus.

Enjoy your stay in September!

Enjoying your posts from Symi, Julia.

That's another restaurant added to the October hit list. We did spot it in May and even had a chat with one of the waiters that we know quite well but then time caught up with us.

Keep up the good "work" :D
