A brief update – we have been home a month now and have just booked to come out again at the end of August. Although we hope we can also get out in May /June – will see!
There are lots of Symi photographs on my photoblog - https://www.photoblog.com/robertthebob
And you will also see some pictures from Leros, Patmos and Samos where we went after Symi. It’s interesting that when we fly straight home from Symi we normally get very depressed – this time it was less of a shock going to the other islands !
But one thing we got very wrong this year was packing – a salutary tale – we bought one of Ian Haycox’s prints (unframed) at the exhibition in the Cultural Centre - great! We both knew instantly that this was something we would like to have in our home. But packing something like this is a nightmare - we had a brainwave and bought two metal wine jugs in Taxas – so the ends were protected – but it took up an awful lot of room in our case. ….
Then when we were in Patmos we bought a decorative wall plate, a table cloth and a whole lot of napkins …… packing crisis was severe by this time – but in the end we managed to get everything in bags only to discover that Olympic’s Bombadier planes (Samos to Athens) don’t take easyJet size bags (we have done this before and should have remembered!)– so our precious bag with plate, laptop etc ended up in the hold …
But the good news is that when we got to Athens it was all fine! The fragile labels must have worked – and then it was easyJet and cabin baggage. But next time we are taking two hold bags!
